ColdSPOT cold therapy wraps are specially designed for effective cold therapy after core needle biopsy.
ColdSPOT is applied to gauze and stays in place over the biopsy site with two adhesive side tabs—no hands or wraps needed.
Thanks to its thin design, flexible gel and low profile, ColdSPOT is very comfortable for patients to continue their normal activities while using cold therapy, unlike bulky ice or chemical packs.
How cold therapy helps after a core biopsy of the breast
Although a core biopsy of the breast is minimally invasive, it still causes tissue disruption, which can result in rapid swelling of the breast tissue and hematoma or blood accumulation in the tissues.
Excessive amounts of blood or fluid accumulated in the breast tissue can delay healing and cause unnecessary pain for the patient.
Pressure and the use of cold therapy (or cryotherapy) are very effective in reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation that may follow these minimally invasive procedures.
What is effective cold therapy?
Effective cold therapy should remove four times the amount of heat from the tissue to improve healing.
This means that the product used must maintain a consistent temperature for longer to enable effective treatment. Cold therapy products that quickly lose their ability to transfer heat limit their effectiveness in reducing swelling, inducing numbness, and alleviating pain.
To avoid frostbite or further tissue damage, no cold therapy product should be placed directly on the skin and should not be applied for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, 4-8 times a day.
